Mariska Hargitay made her Broadway debut in “Every Brilliant Thing” at the Hudson Theatre on May 26, 2026, replacing Daniel Radcliffe in the Tony-nominated solo play. The longtime “Law & Order: SVU” star will perform the role through July 5, before Tracee Ellis Ross takes over beginning July 7.
In her opening week, Hargitay drew strong audience interest, with the Hudson Theatre operating at 97% of capacity and grossing $1,135,322. The figure represents a significant draw for the production, comparable to Radcliffe’s earliest weeks in the role despite the drop from his record-setting final performances.
“Every Brilliant Thing” is a Duncan Macmillan and Jonny Donahoe solo play that follows a nameless protagonist facing personal challenges while chronicling brilliant things in the world. The production uniquely involves audience members, who are called on each night to read some of the protagonist’s favorite brilliant things and stand in for characters in the story. The play debuted at Edinburgh Festival Fringe before coming to Off-Broadway’s Barrow Street Theatre in 2014, where it was later filmed and aired on HBO.
Radcliffe, who originated the role on Broadway, is currently a 2026 Tony nominee for his performance in the production. The creative team from the West End production, including co-directors Jeremy Herrin and Macmillan, returned for the Broadway run.
