Beth and Rip Wheeler take jobs at the rival 10 Petal Ranch in Dutton Ranch episode 5, a stunning pivot that marks the midway point of the Paramount+ series. After losing their entire herd to foot-and-mouth disease in the previous episode, the couple faces an impossible choice: find new income or watch their ranch collapse under unpaid bills.
Quick Facts
- Episode 5, titled “Peaceful Find Peace,” premiered June 5, 2026 on Paramount+
- Rip accepts a foreman position at 10 Petal Ranch for $11,000 per month plus housing
- Beth proposes a business partnership to owner Beulah Jackson, offering 20% of profits in exchange for rebuilding the ranch’s brand
- Carter witnesses the death of his friend Dwight after police raid the property for an illegal leopard
Rip meets with local veterinarian Everett McKinney, who arranges an introduction to Beulah Jackson, the owner of the sprawling 10 Petal Ranch. Drawing on decades of experience running Yellowstone, Rip pitches himself as the solution to the ranch’s leadership problems. “All due respect ma’am, your ranch and my ranch put together ain’t a quarter of what the Yellowstone is,” he tells Beulah, winning her over immediately.
On his first day at 4:30 a.m., Rip identifies the ranch’s biggest problem: foreman Chet, whom he fires within hours. “Well, we’ve already made some changes. Ma’am, Chet doesn’t work here any longer. He’s the kind of cowboy, well, he poisons the well,” Rip explains to Beulah over dinner. The two then negotiate salary, with Rip countering Beulah’s initial offer of $8,000 per month and landing $11,000, plus a truck and house.
While Rip settles into his new role, Beth executes her own strategy. She visits Beulah and lays bare the financial crisis facing both ranches. “Since then, Beulah, you have been overleveraged and undercapitalized. This place is held together with tape and baling wire,” Beth says. She then proposes a solution: hire her to rebuild 10 Petal’s brand into a premium beef operation targeting high-end buyers. “Rip is foreman. I take your steaks to market. We manage everything for you. I will want 20% of the profits, but in five years, Rip and I are out.” Beulah agrees, though Beth makes one thing clear: “My name is not for sale. Dutton will never be part of this deal.”
A Tragedy and a Threat
The episode’s most shocking moment comes when police raid the farm where Carter has been secretly working instead of attending school. His employer, Dwight White, keeps an illegal African leopard on the property—a secret he shared with Carter. When law enforcement arrives, Dwight flees with Carter close behind, but the encounter turns deadly. Sheriff Wade shoots Dwight in the back, claiming self-defense, yet Carter notices Dwight’s knife remains holstered. Wade then warns Carter to stay silent: “You weren’t at Dwight White’s tonight. You never saw a thing. And you’ll never say a word.”
In a final twist, Rob-Will Jackson, Beulah’s troubled son, returns from rehab early and makes his way to the home of the fired foreman Chet. Given Rob-Will’s violent history and Chet’s resentment over losing his job, the pair could spell serious trouble for Rip’s new position at 10 Petal Ranch. Actor Marc Menchaca, who plays Rip’s right hand Zachariah, told TVLine that Beth and Rip’s alliance with Beulah won’t last long: “I think they are going to have some leverage to wage a war.”
