Cardi B issued a lengthy public apology to Latto on June 4 after the Atlanta rapper confirmed on The Breakfast Club that her new song “Gimme Dat” references their ongoing feud, seeking to repair a friendship fractured by a leaked phone call from September 2025.
Quick Facts
- Latto released her album “Big Mama” on May 29 with the track “Gimme Dat,” which she confirmed references Cardi B
- The original conflict stems from a September 2025 leaked call in which Cardi called Latto a “pussy” while ranting about Ice Spice
- Cardi was eight months pregnant and had just released her album when the call leaked
- Cardi claims she made multiple attempts to reconnect with Latto throughout 2025 and 2026, including reaching out to her manager and sister
In her response on X, Cardi, 33, explained that she didn’t intend the disrespect. “On that call I didn’t even mean to call you that, I didn’t mean any harm,” she wrote. “There’s a difference in what I said vs what I meant.”
Cardi said she was “extremely overwhelmed and emotional” when the call surfaced but acknowledged it wasn’t an excuse. “When the call came out I was eight months pregnant, had just released my album, and was extremely overwhelmed and emotional,” she stated. “I genuinely felt bad about what happened.”

The September incident occurred just days after Latto, 27, collaborated with Cardi on the “ErrTime” remix for Cardi’s album. Cardi immediately apologized at that time and promised to buy Latto a designer bag. However, Latto later referenced that offer in “Gimme Dat,” rapping, “Talkin’ ’bout buying Big Mama a bag like my n—- ain’t already bought it.”
During her Breakfast Club interview, Latto explained that while she appreciated the public apology, the private outreach took months. “She did text me, but by that time I’m like, ‘I’m not even thinking about that,'” Latto said. She added that she made the song “when that was a topic in my life” and said she’s open to reconciliation but hasn’t had time given her recent motherhood.
Cardi countered by saying she had reached out through multiple channels. “I spoke with your manager, your sister, and even texted you directly to take full responsibility,” she wrote. “I always had love and respect for you. I always wanted to make it right but making it right looks different for the both of us.”
