Josh Gad confirms voice recording underway for Frozen III, calls it ‘the funniest’ of the trilogy

Josh Gad confirmed earlier this week that voice recording is underway for Frozen III, telling Good Morning America that the third installment is “the funniest of the three movies I’ve ever recorded.”

Quick Facts

  • Gad voices Olaf, the snowman, and said he’s “laughing my butt off” during recording sessions
  • Oscar-winning songwriters Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez are returning to write new songs for the film
  • Frozen III is scheduled to hit theaters on November 24, 2027, the day before Thanksgiving
  • Gad teased “unbelievable developments” and described the music as “incredible”

During his appearance on Good Morning America on June 3, Gad shared details about the production’s progress. “I can tell you I’ve started recording,” he said. “I’ve heard two of the songs. They are incredible.” The actor also praised the creative team, noting that Lopez and Anderson-Lopez, who wrote “Let It Go” and “Into the Unknown” from the first two films, are handling the music again.

Gad appeared on the morning show alongside Andrew Rannells to celebrate the 15th anniversary of The Book of Mormon on Broadway. The two actors, who originated roles in the hit musical, discussed returning to the production for special appearances marking the milestone.

Frozen III was officially announced at D23 in 2024, with director Jennifer Lee returning to helm the film alongside director Trent Correy. The first two Frozen films became global blockbusters, with Frozen II earning $1.325 billion worldwide when it released in 2019, making it the highest-grossing animated film of all time at the time. A fourth Frozen film is also in development.
