Obsession becomes Focus Features’ highest-grossing film with $224.7M worldwide

Focus Features’ horror romance Obsession has become the studio’s highest-grossing film ever, crossing $224.7 million worldwide and surpassing the previous record held by 2019’s Downton Abbey.

Directed by first-time feature filmmaker Curry Barker, the film achieved this milestone on June 7, 2026. The film was made for just $750,000 before Focus Features acquired it out of the Toronto International Film Festival’s Midnight program for $15 million or more.

Obsession had already become Focus’ highest-grossing film domestically on May 31. The film’s worldwide success represents an extraordinary return on investment—the picture has earned roughly 300 times its production budget. In its fourth weekend, the film posted a $25.6 million domestic total, marking the largest fourth weekend ever for a horror film, ahead of 1999’s Blair Witch Project, which earned $24.3 million in its fourth weekend.

The film’s success comes as part of a broader surge in original horror content at the box office in 2026. Starring Inde Navarrette and Michael Johnston, Obsession has resonated with audiences across age groups, from Gen Alpha through viewers in their 50s, with couples debating the film’s central relationship conflict as they leave theaters.
