Matthew McConaughey will narrate Aaron Copland’s iconic Lincoln Portrait as the Houston Symphony’s opening night special guest on September 19, 2026, at Jones Hall, marking a rare live performance for the Academy Award-winning actor in his home state.

The Uvalde-born, Austin-based McConaughey joins the orchestra for the 2026-27 season premiere, a program celebrating the nation’s 250th birthday. Lincoln Portrait, composed by Aaron Copland, weaves together words from the 16th president’s letters and speeches, including the Gettysburg Address, with orchestral accompaniment.

The evening will also feature opera singer Isabel Leonard performing classics from the Great American Songbook and other songs honoring the country’s heritage.
