Simone Biles named 2025 Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year, becomes new ambassador

Simone Biles won the 2025 Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year award on April 21, 2025, in Madrid, marking her fourth victory in the category and cementing her status as one of sport’s most decorated athletes.

The seven-time Olympic gold medalist was honored for her record-breaking performances and comeback after overcoming the challenges that had sidelined her in recent years. Biles tied tennis legend Serena Williams’ record of four Laureus Sportswoman of the Year awards, making her one of the most recognized winners in the award’s history.

Beyond the 2025 award, Biles stepped into a new role in February 2026 when Laureus announced her as a global ambassador. In this capacity, she joined a roster of elite athletes committed to supporting Laureus Sport for Good, the organization’s initiative to use sport as a tool for social change. During her early work as ambassador, Biles visited Polisportiva Garegnano, a Laureus-supported gymnastics and multisport project in Milan that provides opportunities for children and young people—particularly girls—to build confidence and develop life skills through sport.

Biles expressed pride in the role, stating she was “incredibly proud to have been honoured four times as Laureus Sportswoman of the Year” and pledged to support Laureus’ mission centered on the belief that “sport has the power to change the world.” Her appointment strengthens Laureus’ commitment to championing gender equity and inspiring young women and girls globally.
