Kelly Ripa‘s new Hulu docuseries “Squatters: Get the F*** Out of My House” premiered today, a six-part exploration of homeowners battling squatters who exploit legal loopholes to occupy properties rent-free across America.

Quick Facts

  • Six-episode docuseries premiered June 4, 2026 on Hulu
  • Executive produced by Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos
  • Cases span Queens, Malibu, Colorado, Los Angeles, Jacksonville, and Newark
  • Ripa said she was “shaking from rage” while making the series

Homeowners Face Legal Battles Over Property Rights

The docuseries follows ordinary homeowners blindsided by manipulators who weaponize tenant protections and legal loopholes to live in properties they don’t own. According to the series, squatters exploit a complex legal system designed to protect renters, turning it against the very homeowners it should defend. One shocking case involves a Queens homeowner arrested while trying to enter her own house after a squatter claimed legal residency, sparking nationwide outrage and prompting state law changes. Another episode features a Newark woman whose battle with a squatter escalates into a S.W.A.T. team standoff.

Ripa and Consuelos Uncover Systemic Property Rights Issues

Kelly Ripa told PEOPLE that the real-life stories left her outraged. “I’m very much, if something is unjust, it enrages me,” she said. “I was shaking through half of these stories, just like shaking from rage shaking.” Mark Consuelos, her husband and co-executive producer, was equally disturbed by what he learned. “Oh, I would be in so much trouble if this happened to me,” he said. “All the things I thought about doing are against the law.” He noted that many people assume removing a squatter is straightforward, but the legal reality proves far more complex. Ripa was also struck by the property destruction that occurs. “They destroy everything,” she explained, describing how squatters strip fixtures, remove appliances, and vandalize homes before they’re finally evicted.

Six Cases Across America Highlight Growing Trend

The docuseries, produced by Milojo and ABC News Studios, explores six distinct cases. Beyond the Queens and Newark episodes, viewers will encounter a Malibu homeowner whose life is upended by a woman exploiting legal protections; a Colorado family whose deceased relative’s home is claimed by a man posing as her common-law husband; a Los Angeles case involving a missing millionaire’s estate; and a Jacksonville homeowner named Patti Peeples who wages a 36-day battle against alleged squatters. Consuelos said the experience deepened his understanding of how varied the problem is. “We’re just scratching the surface, honestly,” he noted. “I think it’s not just state to state, it’s community to community.” The series is available now on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers in the U.S.
