The untitled Snowfall spinoff was officially ordered to series at FX in November 2025, moving forward with its cast of returning and new characters set in 1990s Los Angeles. The project, which had been in development since the original series’ 2023 finale, is expected to premiere sometime in 2026, though an exact date has not been announced.
The Spinoff’s Creative Team and Cast
The spinoff brings back two stars from the original FX drama: Gail Bean, who played Wanda Bell-Simmons, and Isaiah John, who portrayed Leon Simmons. They’re joined by new cast members Asante Blackk, Peyton Alex Smith, and Simmie Sims III. Malcolm Spellman serves as writer and executive producer, with veteran “Snowfall” creators Dave Andron and Thomas Schlamme also on board as executive producers.
According to FX Entertainment president Nick Grad, the new series explores “one of the most formative eras in music with the birth of the West Coast rap revolution.” The logline describes a recovering addict striving to take West Coast rap mainstream while gang wars erupt and record labels move to exploit hip hop culture.
Snowfall spinoff ‘The Drop’ set to premiere later in 2026
By Any Means teams Mark Wahlberg, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II for Sept. release
The Original Series’ Legacy
The original “Snowfall,” created by the late John Singleton, Eric Amadio, and Dave Andron, ran for six seasons between 2017 and 2023. It became one of the most successful FX dramas ever, exploring the crack cocaine epidemic in South Central Los Angeles through multiple perspectives. The spinoff represents the network’s confidence in the franchise and its appetite for expanding the world Singleton and his collaborators built.
