Watson Gets Cancelled After Two Seasons
Morris Chestnut‘s short-lived medical drama starring as Dr. John Watson will not return for season three. The Sherlock Holmes-inspired show premiered in January 2025 and ran for two seasons total.
Watson follows the head of a medical clinic focused on rare disorders as he solves medical mysteries following the death of his best friend, Sherlock Holmes. The show was created by Craig Sweeny and produced by CBS Studios. Despite a solid first season run, Watson’s ratings struggled in its sophomore year, particularly after shifting to Monday nights.

The series finale airs Sunday, May 3 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. Fans still have 20 total episodes from season two to enjoy before the final episode.
DMV Workplace Comedy Cut After One Season
DMV, the workplace comedy set in an East Hollywood Department of Motor Vehicles office, has been cancelled after just one season. The show starred Harriet Dyer, Tim Meadows, and Tony Cavalero as underpaid workers dealing with office dramas and frustrated customers.
Created by Dana Klein, DMV received a series order in April 2025 and earned a full-season pickup later that year. The show’s March 16 episode garnered 2.8 million viewers in its live airing. CBS Studios produced the comedy alongside creators Klein and director Trent O’Donnell.
The series finale airs Sunday, May 11 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT, giving viewers one last chance to see their favorite DMV workers on screen.
Why CBS Cancelled Both Shows
The network cited low viewership and scheduling conflicts as primary reasons for the cancellations. Watson became CBS’s lowest-rated scripted series this season, averaging just 2.86 million viewers, representing a steep decline of more than 44 percent from its first season performance.
| Show | Status | Seasons | Finale Date |
| Watson | Cancelled | 2 | May 3, 10 p.m. ET |
| DMV | Cancelled | 1 | May 11, 8:30 p.m. ET |
Despite the cancellations, CBS is doubling down on other series. The network renewed programs including Marshals, George and Mandy’s First Marriage, NCIS franchises, Fire Country, FBI, Ghosts, and Tracker for the 2026-2027 season.
“I am saddened by the news of our cancellation, but we still have a handful of entertaining episodes for you!”

What CBS Is Picking Up Instead
To fill the time slots left by Watson and DMV, CBS greenlit two new series for the 2026-2027 season. Cupertino, a Silicon Valley legal drama from The Good Wife creators Robert and Michelle King, will star Mike Colter as a lawyer taking on tech giants.
The procedural drama Einstein from creator Andy Breckman will star Matthew Gray Gubler as the famous physicist’s brilliant but directionless grandson, forced to team with a detective on her cases. Both shows mark CBS’s bet on fresh content to replace the cancelled medical drama and workplace comedy.
Will Either Show Get a Second Chance?
Currently, there are no announced plans for Watson or DMV to return on other networks or streaming platforms. Watson’s cast and crew thanked fans for their support as they prepared for the show’s final episodes.
The cancellations wrapped up CBS’s 2026-27 lineup announcements, with the network finalizing its schedule after months of renewal deliberations and pilot seasons. Fans of both shows have until May to watch their remaining episodes before the shows conclude for good.
