Cape Fear now streaming on Apple TV with Javier Bardem, Amy Adams

Apple TV’s Cape Fear premiered on June 5, 2026, with the first two episodes now streaming, launching a 10-episode psychological thriller starring Javier Bardem, Amy Adams, and Patrick Wilson in a fresh adaptation of the classic revenge story.

The series follows Max Cady, a convicted killer released from prison after 17 years, as he infiltrates the lives of the married attorneys who helped put him behind bars. Bardem plays the menacing Cady, while Adams and Wilson portray Anna and Tom Bowden, the lawyers facing his calculated vengeance.

Executive produced by Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg—who collaborated on the 1991 film version—the Apple TV series was created by Nick Antosca and marks the third major adaptation of John D. MacDonald’s novel The Executioners. Scorsese directed the 1991 film, which starred Robert De Niro as Max Cady, while the original 1962 Cape Fear featured Robert Mitchum in the role.

The new series stands apart by blending homage to Scorsese’s 1991 version with modern storytelling. According to Entertainment Weekly, Scorsese and Spielberg shaped the new adaptation after their work on the original film, with the series adding contemporary themes and fears to the psychological drama. The show is set in Georgia and filmed on location there, creating a lush Southern Gothic atmosphere.

Early reviews have been largely positive. Variety described it as “perhaps the most unnerving and intense retelling yet,” exploring betrayal, retribution, and the cost of demanding an eye for an eye. NPR praised Bardem as “riveting” in the role, while The Guardian called the series a “twisty remake” with brilliant performances from both Bardem and Adams. Roger Ebert’s Richard Roeper gave it three out of four stars, noting that the core story of a family threatened by a relentless outsider remains intact while the series injects current-day perspectives.

The series releases new episodes every Friday through July 31, 2026. All 10 episodes total approximately 10 hours of content, making it one of Apple TV’s more substantial limited series offerings this year.
