Twitch will launch dual format streaming and 2K video support in June, expanding the platform’s capabilities for creators and viewers across desktop and mobile devices. The company announced the features at TwitchCon Rotterdam on May 30, 2026, alongside a suite of new creator tools and monetization options.
Quick Facts
- Dual Format streaming allows creators to broadcast in horizontal and vertical formats simultaneously
- 2K (1440p) streaming rolls out in June 2026 for all Partners and Affiliates
- Enhanced bitrate support: 9 Mbps for 1440p, 7.5 Mbps for 1080p
- Desktop viewers see horizontal format; mobile viewers see full-screen vertical view
Dual Format uses Enhanced Broadcasting technology to encode multiple stream variants, with Twitch adding server-side transcoding support for Partners and many Affiliates to reduce strain on creators’ systems. Mobile users holding their phones vertically will see a full-screen vertical view optimized for mobile devices, while desktop viewers see the classic horizontal format.
The 2K upgrade marks a significant step up from standard 1080p streaming, offering richer detail and improved clarity. Twitch said the higher resolution will be available to all Partners and Affiliates starting in June through its Enhanced Broadcasting infrastructure.

During testing, 85% of creators using Auto Clips had a clip to share after a stream, compared to the platform average of 50%.
