Tulsa King is preparing for a significant production shift with a writers’ room for Season 5 now open, and sources indicate the crime drama will relocate from Atlanta to New York for the next chapter of the Sylvester Stallone-led Paramount+ series.
Quick Facts
- Season 5 writers’ room is now open as Season 4 recently wrapped production.
- New York offers a 30% film tax rebate, matching Georgia’s incentive and up to 40% for qualifying investments.
- Approximately 250 crew members currently work on the show in Atlanta.
- Dwight Manfredi, Stallone’s character, originates from New York before being exiled to Oklahoma.
Why the Move to New York Makes Sense
The planned relocation reflects both financial and creative considerations. New York’s film tax incentive program has expanded twice in the last three years under Governor Kathy Hochul, now totaling $800 million annually as the state competes with expanded incentives in New Jersey and other regions. The 30% rebate matches Georgia’s credit, and companies investing at least $100 million can receive up to 40% back. The state has also expanded coverage for above-the-line costs, making it increasingly attractive for major productions.
From a storytelling perspective, the move aligns with Dwight’s character arc. The mafia capo was originally from New York before his associates exiled him to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Returning to his home state could naturally escalate the narrative, allowing him to confront old enemies and face the consequences of his past—a compelling direction for Tulsa King as it enters its fifth season.

Production and Crew Considerations
The show has primarily been shot in Atlanta throughout its entire run. Approximately 250 people work on the show’s crew in Atlanta, many of whom have been with the production since it began. Such a significant relocation would require careful planning and coordination. The series has also faced behind-the-scenes challenges, including the replacement of over two dozen crew members heading into Season 4 under 101 Studios executive Scott Stone, who has served as the de facto showrunner in the absence of a formal showrunner position.
Terence Winter returned as head writer and executive producer for Season 4 after stepping down as showrunner following Season 1. Winter, who created “Boardwalk Empire,” initially served as showrunner on the series’ first season before rejoining as head writer for Season 2, where he worked primarily in the writers’ room while producing director Craig Zisk handled on-set duties.
Season 5 Status and Future Prospects
While the writers’ room is active and relocation plans are underway, an official Season 5 pickup has not yet been announced. However, given the show’s strong viewership and popularity on Paramount+, a renewal is considered likely. Season 3 aired between September and November 2025, with Season 4 announced ahead of that premiere. No premiere date has been set for Season 4 at the time of reporting.
Tulsa King remains one of several Taylor Sheridan series on the Paramount+ slate, alongside shows like “Landman,” “Lioness,” “The Madison,” “Dutton Ranch,” and “Mayor of Kingstown.” The spinoff “Frisco King,” starring Samuel L. Jackson, is also in development, expanding the franchise’s reach beyond the original series.
