Baylor’s Growing Commencement Tradition Expands Over Decades
The four-ceremony format represents Baylor’s commitment to celebrating each graduate meaningfully. This expansion started in 2009 when spring graduation expanded to three ceremonies over two days. By 2022, the university further developed its model, establishing four distinct ceremonies to accommodate 3,000+ graduate participants.
Ferrell Center, opened in fall 1988, has served as Baylor’s primary commencement venue for nearly 40 years. Prior to that, ceremonies moved through various locations including Heart of Texas Coliseum and Baylor Stadium. The 2021 spring ceremonies notably took place outdoors at McLane Stadium during the COVID-19 pandemic, marking the first outdoor celebration since 1955.
