Massive one-night-only concert in Rio de Janeiro to be headlined by System of a Down

System of a Down has confirmed a one-off stadium concert in Rio de Janeiro that will be a focal point for fans planning travel and tickets next year: the alt-metal group will play Maracanã on Jan. 15, 2027, and Faith No More will appear as special guests. The announcement, posted on the band’s social channels, comes ahead of a broader South America run and an Australia/New Zealand trek the acts will share.

The Rio date is billed as a singular event at one of the city’s largest venues and will precede System of a Down’s scheduled South American shows in 2027. Organizers say the appearance also helps set the stage for the pair’s joint shows in Australia and New Zealand later next year.

System of a Down recently wrapped a European and U.K. leg of touring and topped the bill at April’s Sick New World festival in Las Vegas. Faith No More — who last toured Australia in 2015 during the final Soundwave festivals — join this Rio show as a notable guest, marking a rare pairing for stadium audiences.

For Brazilian audiences the date has extra resonance: System of a Down headlined Rock in Rio in 2015 and returned to South America last year for several stadium concerts, including multiple nights in São Paulo.

  • Event: One Night Only — System of a Down with Faith No More (special guest)
  • Date: Jan. 15, 2027
  • Venue: Maracanã Stadium, Rio de Janeiro
  • Presale: Tuesday, Aug. 18 at 10 a.m. — first access for email list sign-ups
  • General sale: Friday, Aug. 21 at noon

Practical stakes for fans are immediate: given the artists’ recent stadium runs and the symbolic weight of a Maracanã concert, tickets are expected to move quickly. Fans who want early access should register for the band’s mailing list ahead of the presale window.

Beyond ticket logistics, the show matters because it reunites two influential alternative-rock acts on a large scale and represents a high-profile return to Brazil after recent headline appearances. For many in the region, this will be one of the rare opportunities to see both bands on the same bill at a major stadium.
