Resident Alien’s fourth and final season is now streaming on Netflix after the sci-fi comedy-drama was cancelled by USA Network and Syfy. The complete season arrived on the platform on June 6, 2026, giving fans access to the show’s conclusion on a major streaming service.
The series, starring Alan Tudyk as an alien who assumes the identity of a small-town doctor, ended after four seasons. The cancellation was announced on July 24, 2025, just days before the season finale aired on USA Network and Syfy on August 8, 2025. Despite the show’s popularity among devoted fans, modest cable ratings and limited traction on Peacock ultimately sealed its fate.
According to Deadline, the new episodes of Resident Alien were modest ratings performers amid declining overall cable viewership and didn’t gain much ground on NBCU’s streaming service Peacock, even with a boost in awareness from previous seasons’ exposure on Netflix. The show had already come close to cancellation after Season 3, surviving only through a budget reduction and a move from Syfy to sister network USA.
Creator and showrunner Chris Sheridan had anticipated the end and planned accordingly. “I knew going into it that this was likely going to be our final season,” Sheridan told TV Insider. “Creatively, that was exciting because I knew we could spend the time wrapping up some storylines and driving toward an ending.” At San Diego Comic-Con 2025, Sheridan explained his early decision to conclude the series: “I knew the smart thing was to plan on it being over after this season and to finish the story, so that when we walk away, [we can be] proud of what we’ve done, the story is told, and the fans can feel satisfied,” according to USA Network.
Sheridan expressed pride in the final season’s execution. “In the writers’ room, we crafted a season that wraps up storylines and gives the audience a very satisfying conclusion to the four seasons that they’ve been watching,” he said at Comic-Con. “I’m so proud of where we end up this season.”
