Eve Hewson earned Steven Spielberg’s praise as “extraordinary” for her role in the sci-fi thriller Disclosure Day, which hits cinemas on June 12. Spielberg told RTÉ Entertainment that Hewson’s performance in the Apple TV+ series Bad Sisters caught his eye, prompting him to cast her in the film.
“She’s wonderful. I had previously worked with Eve Hewson on Bridge of Spies (2015), she played Tom Hanks’ daughter,” Spielberg said. “But I thought of her because I was a big fan of Bad Sisters. I thought she did extraordinary work in that. So, she got the part pretty quickly.”
In Disclosure Day, Hewson plays Jane, a former nun whose partner Daniel—portrayed by Josh O’Connor—becomes a whistleblower aiming to expose decades of secrets around extraterrestrial encounters. O’Connor echoed Spielberg’s assessment of Hewson, telling RTÉ Entertainment that she is “an extraordinary actor” and “a brilliant friend and very supportive.”
The film marks Spielberg’s return to extraterrestrial storytelling after Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, and War of the Worlds. The screenplay is by David Koepp, based on Spielberg’s original story. The ensemble cast also includes Emily Blunt, Colin Firth, and Colman Domingo.
