Scott Rudin won the Tony Award for best revival of a play at the 2026 Tony Awards on June 7, marking a major victory for the producer as he returns to Broadway following his departure from the industry amid allegations of bullying and abusive behavior toward staff.
Quick Facts
- Death of a Salesman won 6 Tony Awards, the most of any play at the 2026 ceremony
- The production received 9 Tony nominations total
- Nathan Lane accepted the award on behalf of Rudin, who did not appear onstage
- The revival also won Tonys for direction, featured actress, scenic design, lighting design, and sound design
The revival of Arthur Miller’s classic starred Nathan Lane as Willy Loman and Laurie Metcalf as Linda Loman, with direction by Joe Mantello. The production opened April 9 at the Winter Garden Theatre after beginning previews March 6.
Rudin’s return to Broadway comes after he stepped away from the industry following a 2021 Hollywood Reporter investigation that detailed multiple allegations from former employees of bullying, verbal abuse, and throwing objects at staff. He had previously been a dominant force on Broadway, producing major revivals including The Music Man and Hello, Dolly!

“We all wouldn’t be standing here without the genius of Joe Mantello, who created this revelatory production, and most importantly, the genius of Arthur Miller, who created this monumental masterpiece, which is still sadly as relevant as it was in 1949,” Lane said while accepting the award.
Metcalf won the Tony for best featured actress in a play for her role as Linda Loman. Director Joe Mantello also won for best direction of a play. The production’s other wins included Chloe Lamford for scenic design, Jack Knowles for lighting design, and Mikaal Sulaiman for sound design.
