June HBO Max movie releases feature two major streaming events: the return of the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon for its third season on June 21, and the premiere of Larry David’s new sketch comedy series Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness on June 26.
House of the Dragon Season 3 marks the continuation of the epic fantasy drama set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. The eight-episode season will release episodes weekly, with the finale set for August 10, according to HBO Max’s official announcement.
Larry David’s new HBO series, titled Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness: An Almost History of America, is a seven-episode sketch comedy that satirizes United States history in celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary. Directed by Jeff Schaffer, who worked on Curb Your Enthusiasm and Seinfeld, the show features an ensemble cast including Curb Your Enthusiasm alumni Jeff Garlin, J.B. Smoove, and Susie Essman, along with guest stars Bill Hader as Abraham Lincoln, Kathryn Hahn as Mary Todd Lincoln, Jon Hamm and Sean Hayes as the Wright brothers, and Jerry Seinfeld alongside David as Lewis and Clark. Vince Vaughn also makes an appearance, and former President Barack Obama, whose production company Higher Ground produces the series, appears in one sketch opposite David.

The series is not traditionally scripted—each sketch has an outline, but dialogue is largely improvised, similar to the format of Curb Your Enthusiasm. According to Variety, Schaffer described the show as “‘Curb’ in costume.” The series premiered June 26 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and HBO Max, with new episodes debuting weekly through August 7.
Beyond these two major releases, HBO Max added 79 new movies and shows throughout June 2026. The slate includes A24 films such as Pillion and How to Make a Killing, as well as Questlove’s documentary EARTH, WIND & FIRE (To Be Celestial vs. That’s the Weight of the World), which arrived June 7. Dozens of classic films also joined the service, including Contagion, Hell or High Water, Isle of Dogs, Midsommar, and Room.
