Halle Berry on turning 60: ‘I’m the best version of myself’

Halle Berry says she’s entering her 60s as the best version of herself, reflecting on the milestone birthday she’ll celebrate this August with confidence and gratitude for her enduring career in Hollywood.

In a conversation with Today‘s Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones, the Oscar-winning actor opened up about what turning 60 means to her. “I feel different than I thought I would feel at 60,” she said. “What is 60? What is age anymore? It’s a feeling. I feel stronger, smarter, wiser, more myself, more in control. I am the best version of myself at this time in my life, and I am so glad that I’m still here and healthy.”

Berry will turn 60 on August 14, 2026, and has made clear she refuses to let age define her career. She emphasized her gratitude for a 35-year span in Hollywood, during which she has remained actively working on projects that matter to her. “I still get to work in movies and film and do the things that I love, tell stories that matter to me,” she explained. “Still raise my children, my family. I’m still alive in it. I haven’t gone off into the sunset. I haven’t fallen off. I’m still here doing it on my own terms.”

Berry’s career includes major roles in Spike Lee’s 1991 film Jungle Fever and the 1992 romantic comedy Boomerang. In 2001, she made history by becoming the first and only Black woman to win the Academy Award for Best Actress, a win she earned for her role in Monster’s Ball. Most recently, she starred in the crime thriller Crime 101 alongside Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo, and has upcoming projects including the drama Fleur and the action thriller Red Card, both still in production.
