The Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) announced the honor for Gill, describing him as a gifted songwriter, philanthropist, and one of the most beloved artists in modern country music. The Kris Kristofferson Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes individuals whose works have made significant contributions to the American songbook and inspired the careers of others.
Gill’s career achievements span decades. He became a Grand Ole Opry member in 1991, joined the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005, and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2007. In 2025, he received the CMA Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award. Across his career, Gill has released 21 albums, sold over 30 million records, and charted 45 singles.

The Kris Kristofferson award has previously been presented to Alabama (2025), Alan Jackson (2024), Bobby Braddock (2023), Garth Brooks (2022), Loretta Lynn (2019), Bill Anderson (2018), and Willie Nelson (2013). Alongside Gill’s honor, Paul Williams, the longtime ASCAP president and chairman, will receive NSAI’s President’s Keystone Award in recognition of his contributions to the songwriting industry.
The 9th Annual Nashville Songwriter Awards will also recognize winners of Song of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, and Songwriter-Artist of the Year, along with the coveted ’10 Songs I Wish I’d Written’ awards. Tickets go on sale July 17.
