Amy Adams returns to TV in Apple’s Cape Fear, her first series role in nearly a decade

Amy Adams returns to television in Apple’s Cape Fear, her first series role in nearly a decade, starring opposite Javier Bardem in a 10-episode psychological thriller that premiered on June 5, 2026.

Adams plays Anna Bowden, an attorney whose family faces a growing threat when Max Cady, a sociopathic ex-convict released after serving seventeen years, is released from prison. Patrick Wilson co-stars as her husband Tom Bowden. The series marks Adams’ major television comeback since her 2018 HBO limited series Sharp Objects, where she played crime reporter Camille Preaker.

The adaptation is executive produced by Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg, reimagining the classic thriller that has been adapted twice before—as a 1962 film and a 1991 film also directed by Scorsese. The new version updates the story with themes of paranoia and gaslighting in a contemporary setting.
