The third installment of the trilogy completed filming four months after production began in July 2025, marking the end of principal work on what Villeneuve has positioned as the final chapter of Paul Atreides’ story. The film adapts Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel Dune Messiah and jumps the timeline 17 years forward, following Paul as Emperor Muad’Dib navigating the consequences of his ascent to power and a galaxy-wide holy war.
