Jason Momoa describes extensive Lobo makeup process for Supergirl: ‘I’ve never been covered up that much’

Jason Momoa described the extensive makeup and prosthetics process for his role as Lobo in the upcoming Supergirl movie, saying in a Fandango interview that he’s never been covered up to this degree for any character. “I’ve never been covered up that much. My nails, teeth, hair, prosthetics on my face, body. Everything’s covered,” Momoa explained.

The transformation to become the Czarnian interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter involves multiple layers of prosthetics, custom nails, teeth modifications, and bright red contact lenses. Momoa noted that while the extensive coverage initially required adjustment, it ultimately helped him access the character’s physicality and energy. “When you put all that shit on, and you open your eyes, and they’re big, bright red lenses, all these things kind of come out,” he said, adding that he drew from his extensive knowledge of the comics and the script to inform his performance while staying open to improvisation.

Momoa has previously played Aquaman in multiple DC films, but the Lobo role represents a departure into a more extreme character design. Supergirl arrives in theaters on June 26, 2026.
