The Yellowstone spinoff Dutton Ranch filmed all across North Texas from August 2025 to March 2026, spanning multiple locations from Ferris to Fort Worth and beyond as the production brought the fictional town of Rio Paloma to life.
Quick Facts
- Production ran for 8 months across North Texas from August 2025 to March 2026
- Key locations included Ferris, Boyd, Cleburne, Weatherford, Dallas, Rio Vista, Fort Worth, and Mineral Wells
- The Saunders Ranch in Weatherford serves as Beth and Rip’s home in the series
- A 5,200-acre property in Ferris, formerly owned by Trinity Industries CEO W. Ray Wallace, hosted the rival ranch owner’s scenes
The Paramount+ series, which premiered May 15, follows Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler as they relocate from Montana to Texas. Executive producer David Glasser emphasized the importance of authenticity, saying the production wanted to avoid green screens and instead embrace the real Texas landscape. “Using Texas as a backdrop helped make it this authentic and grounded show,” Glasser explained to D Magazine.
Ferris, a city of about 5,100 residents roughly 20 miles south of Dallas, became a central hub for the production. The Wallace property in Ferris provided the setting for scenes involving Annette Bening’s rival ranch owner character. City Manager Brooks Williams told the Star-Telegram that the production was “one of the easiest and most pleasant experiences” to work with, and residents viewed the show as a positive development for their growing community.

Creator Chad Feehan, who wrote and created Lawmen: Bass Reeves, brought deep Texas roots to the project, having been born and raised in the state. This local knowledge proved crucial during location scouting across the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The production also benefited from an established crew base in the region, having previously filmed other Taylor Sheridan shows like Lioness and Landman in and around Dallas.
