Swift announced the project on June 2, saying she had always dreamed of writing for the Toy Story characters since watching the first film at age 5. According to her statement, she wrote the song immediately after viewing an early screening of Toy Story 5.
The song was inspired by Jessie, the cowgirl character whose story continues in the new film. Disney described the track as marking “a return to Swift’s country roots, blending styles that have defined her record-breaking career as a songwriter and artist.”

In a detailed post on Instagram, Swift reflected on the creative process, saying: “Writing this song felt like a musical departure and coming home at the same time. Creating something for Jessie was a new challenge and also felt like second nature all at once.” She thanked director Andrew Stanton, composer Randy Newman, and Antonoff for the collaboration.
The original score for Toy Story 5 is composed by Oscar winner Randy Newman, who has scored all five Toy Story films. The full soundtrack will accompany the movie’s June 19 release in theaters.
