Forte explained the moment he first saw his wife’s new look. “I FaceTime her, she picks up the FaceTime and she has freshly cut bangs,” he said on the show. “She has never had bangs before since I’ve known her. Did not know she was getting bangs. No words were spoken until I said, ‘What happened to you?'”
The actor immediately recognized his blunder. “And then I said, ‘Is that a wig?!” he continued. “And look, in fairness to me, the way the bangs were presented, she was like hunched over a little bit. So it wasn’t like Brigitte Bardot bangs, it was more like Spock.” Forte even joked that since it was around Halloween, perhaps she was planning to dress as the Star Trek character.

The Divorce Joke and Recovery
Realizing his misstep during the call, Forte tried to recover. “It’s like, ‘How do I turn this around and make it seem like I think they’re beautiful?'” he said. However, he was in the middle of rehearsal, so he had to abruptly end the conversation, leaving things on an awkward note.
When Forte finally reconnected with Modling after a half hour, he found a series of texts waiting for him. Host Seth Meyers displayed them for the audience: “She said, ‘Is that a wig? The. Worst. Possible. Thing. To. Hear. After. Cutting. BANGS!’ And I was like, ‘Ha ha ha ha.’ And then she said, ‘Divorce.'”
Fortunately, the tension didn’t last. “We got past it!” Forte assured the audience, confirming the threat was made in jest. Forte and Modling married in 2021 after three years of dating and have since welcomed two daughters, Zoe and Cecilia.
