Meet the Collector: the Intelligent Predator
The Collector Leviathan is the iconic boss creature of Subnautica 2. This enormous cephalopod-like squid features four hunting tentacles with bio-glass claws and a beak capable of tearing titanium. What makes it truly terrifying is its extreme intelligence. Unlike instinct-driven creatures, the Collector observes, manipulates, and strategizes.
According to the in-game PDA, this creature possesses three hearts, two branchial hearts that pump blood through its gills to the main heart. Players have found it nests in deep chasms, where it feeds on Coral Crabs and juvenile Great Jaws. Its solitary hunting pattern makes encounters with this leviathan incredibly dangerous. The creature is found in the Graveyard and Root Canyon biomes.

The Shiver Leviathan: Pack Hunters of the Void
The Shiver Leviathan patrols the deepest, darkest regions of Zazura’s oceans. These creatures hunt in coordinated packs, with a massive female leading a group of two to three smaller males. The males rely on the female’s tail-mounted sensory organ that functions like long-range sonar for navigation.
Located in dead zones approximately 5,000 meters deep, Shiver Leviathans use devastating tactical coordination. While the female charges directly, males circle from the sides and below, creating a deadly pincer attack. Encounters with this species are essentially fatal, delivering one-shot kills before players can react. The creature has sexual dimorphism, with females noticeably larger than males.

Additional Threats: Great Jaw and the Mysterious World Tree
The Great Jaw, nicknamed Clamthulu by developers, is a stationary leviathan that uses a passive trap strategy. This creature waits inside an enormous armored shell, deploying trigger-wire tentacles that detect movement. Touch a wire and the creature’s eyes open. Break the trap tendon without being seen, and you escape. But if the Great Jaw detects you, its jaws snap shut with gastric acid secretion that dissolves prey slowly inside.
The mysterious World Tree stands at the edge of the map as a Titan-class organism, higher than the leviathan classification. This creature is non-scannable and surrounded by an invisible blockade. According to lore, an alien species hibernates deep within the tree’s roots, having failed to cure the planet’s infection. The Titan Rock Bores scattered across Zazura are theorized to be extensions of the World Tree itself.

Previous Subnautica games featured creatures like Reapers and Ghost Leviathans. Subnautica 2 discards that bestiary entirely because it takes place on a completely different alien world.
