Opiangah’s creation is a stunning abstract portrait of figures embracing, positioned across the body in soft blue, earthy beige, and warm greens. The artist explained her concept over FaceTime during the fitting, visibly emotional about the final result. “I visualized an embrace, and the arms are coming together to embrace Law,” Opiangah said. “I had the spirit of it in my head and then when I started the sketch, I was thinking of these bodies reaching towards that warmth that comes from an embrace.”
Roach broke Met Gala tradition by revealing his look early, wanting to highlight the collaborative process with both Mattiussi and Opiangah before the big night. “It’s beautiful to show this now,” he noted. “Then people become attached to it and are waiting to see the final look on the red carpet.”
