The Sean Connery Foundation’s Commitment to Scottish Cinema
Stephane Connery and Jason Connery lead the Sean Connery Foundation with a mission to expand film industry access for talented Scots. The foundation subsidized 70% of participant fees to remove financial barriers. Jason Connery emphasized his father’s legacy of believing education transforms potential into achievement.
The foundation partners with BBC Film, Dana and Albert Broccoli Foundation, The Rank Foundation, Prime Video, and over a dozen regional supporters. This network ensures emerging filmmakers access world-class training while staying rooted in Scotland. The EIFF 2025 premiere validated this model’s success across diverse storytelling disciplines and filmmaker backgrounds.
What Does the 2026 Sean Connery Talent Lab Offer Emerging Filmmakers?
Applications for the 2026 cohort closed January 11, 2026, attracting ambitious Scottish and UK filmmakers. The program launches late April 2026 with the same transformative structure. Participants will again form six teams, receive £25,000 production budgets, and earn an NFTS Diploma in Filmmaking upon completion.
The 12-month journey includes intensive workshops, professional seminars, and hands-on production experience. Selected filmmakers will create short films submitted to international festivals, maintaining the trajectory established by the inaugural cohort. The Sean Connery Foundation continues underwriting fees for emerging voices, particularly those from underrepresented communities, disabled individuals, and neurodivergent creatives such as those with dyslexia.
