The Love Story That Started at a Wedding
Russell and Teil met at a pivotal moment in 2013, at the wedding of Teil’s sister and one of Russell’s childhood best friends. The introduction sparked an immediate connection. Four months after that wedding, the couple arranged their first date, and the relationship blossomed. Teil told Charleston Weddings in 2015: “He’s had me laughing from day one, so we’ve never struggled to have fun in mundane situations.”
Russell, moved by Teil’s quiet confidence and authentic nature, drew inspiration from her for his golf career. He proposed to Teil on the Pitt Street Bridge in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, where she had established her first art studio. They married on October 30, 2015, surrounded by family and close friends in Charleston.

Three Children and Balancing Two Powerhouse Careers
Russell and Teil share three children who often accompany their parents on PGA Tour adventures. Their son Robert Russell Henley was born April 3, 2018, followed by daughter Ruth Teil Henley on June 14, 2019, and youngest daughter Jane Edith Henley on June 4, 2022. The family relocated to Columbus, Georgia, in 2019, where both Teil’s family and Russell’s roots run deep.
Motherhood has amplified Teil’s creativity. She told Synovus in 2023, “I actually started exploding with more ideas,” describing how becoming a mother tapped into new creative pathways in her brain. Russell regularly travels for PGA tournaments, and Teil manages to keep the family connected while maintaining her thriving art business. Russell stated: “I don’t think I could do my job if Teil wasn’t up for traveling. She’s really the glue that holds it all together.”
What Makes Teil Duncan an Unstoppable Artist
Teil’s success stems from conviction and unwavering belief in her vision. Russell discovered this about her early on. He told Links Players magazine: “Teil has a strong belief system in what she’s capable of doing and how she knows what works. She doesn’t let little things change her opinion.” This philosophy mirrors his approach to golf, and he credits her quiet confidence with inspiring his own professional achievements.
After winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March 2025, Russell publicly praised Teil, saying: “She puts steel in my spine. She’s tough on me when she needs to be and just super supportive. I just feel so loved by her.” The couple recently showcased their Columbus, Georgia home in Garden & Gun magazine, featuring Teil’s gallery walls, her cottage studio filled with natural light, and the backyard putting greens that blend their two passions. Teil’s professional trajectory continues upward today.
