Yerke was a petite woman, standing about two feet tall, who carried massive scripts everywhere on set. Landon devised a simple but diabolical trick: quietly placing tiny rocks into her director’s chair’s saddlebags throughout the day.
“She’s dragging her chair. She’s got about 10 pounds of rocks in her chair with her scripts, which are really heavy,” Labyorteaux recalled with delight. “I remember her saying, ‘Man, I must be getting old. These chairs are getting so heavy.’ And Michael would just laugh and laugh and laugh.” The prank worked perfectly because Yerke never discovered the rocks until later.
