Ding Defeats Fellow New Jerseyan in Clutch Friday Matchup
Taotao Zhang, a statistician from South River, New Jersey, challenged Ding fiercely through the first round but made a costly error. Zhang wagered everything on a Double Jeopardy Daily Double in the second round and answered incorrectly, dropping to zero dollars. By the time Final Jeopardy arrived, Ding had secured the match with $23,800 to Zhang’s $8,400.
Tini Howard, a comic book writer from Van Nuys, California, finished third with $5,499. The Final Jeopardy clue asked about an opera meaning “Faithful” used as an alias in a famous opera. All three contestants correctly responded with “What is Fidelio?”. Ding risked $6,200 and won the full $30,000 to extend his dominance.

“Jamie Ding! Making New Jersey proud! This Lawrenceville resident spends his days helping fund affordable housing across the Garden State, then goes on national TV and dominates. The man answers trivia on Jeopardy and houses people for a living. New Jersey does not miss. Keep buzzing, Jamie.”

Can Ding Reach the Final Four and Trigger a Record Race?
Ding needs just $16,286 more to surpass Cris Pannullo, another New Jersey native, for fifth place in all-time regular-season winnings. At his current average of approximately $28,000 per game, he could reach that milestone within two episodes. The real question is whether he can maintain momentum toward James Holzhauer’s 32-game record, which would require six more consecutive victories.
Ding appears on Jeopardy every weekday, with the next episode airing Monday evening on major networks and streaming exclusively on Hulu and Peacock. In Detroit, the show airs on WDIV-TV Channel 4 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern. His weekend law students from Seton Hall Law School have organized watch parties wearing specially designed orange and blue shirts supporting their fellow classmate. Will Jamie Ding write his name into Jeopardy history alongside the all-time greats?
