A Dream That Started at Age 11
When Juliette Lewis was just 11 years old, her brother snuck her into a stage production of Rocky Horror in the San Fernando Valley. In that moment, she found her people. “I knew immediately that I belonged in this universe,” Lewis recalls about discovering the campy musical that celebrates queer culture, punk rock, and wild, freaky artists. Nearly four decades later, she’s finally returning to the role as Magenta.
For Lewis, whose film work has favored volatility and voltage, this Broadway debut feels especially full. Her rock band background and fearless stage presence make her perfect for Pinkleton’s vision. She’ll even open the production with the classic number “Science Fiction/Double Feature,” setting the tone for everything to come.

The Cast They’ve Been Waiting For
This isn’t just any Rocky Horror revival. Director Sam Pinkleton has assembled an eclectic cast of Hollywood stars, musical-theatre performers, and comedians who all share deep personal connections to the material. Luke Evans, the Welsh actor best known for The Hobbit and Beauty and the Beast, makes his own Broadway debut as the seductive Dr. Frank-N-Furter. “The voice, the charisma, everything he’s doing is so powerful,” Lewis gushes about her leading man.
Amber Gray brings edge as Riff Raff, while Rachel Dratch from SNL tackles the Narrator. Harvey Guillén takes on dual roles as Eddie and Dr. Scott. The ensemble also features Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Stephanie Hsu, Josh Rivera, and Andrew Durand. All of them grew up with Rocky Horror defining their identities.

“To do Rocky Horror where I get to learn choreography and sing and we laugh, it’s emotional. When I was 11, before I had a career, I saw Rocky Horror and it brought me to life. I felt like that was my community. So to do it now at 52 is really special for me.”

Why Studio 54 Matters for This Revival
Sam Pinkleton chose Studio 54 deliberately. The iconic nightclub venue carries the exact spirit Rocky Horror needs: lo-fi charm, visible decay, incredible ghosts who’ve danced on its floor. “The danger for us is in Broadway-ifying it too much,” Pinkleton explains. The costume design by David I. Reynoso channels Rick Owens and Michèle Lamy for a DIY punk aesthetic that feels authentic, not polished.
The 24-year gap since Rocky Horror was last on a Broadway stage only amplifies its return. This isn’t a show about fixing what worked before, it’s about honoring what meant everything to the actors performing it and the audiences who made it a cult phenomenon. From audience interjections to audience participation, the energy will be unpredictable and electric.
What Makes This Production Singular and Fresh
Pinkleton’s vision embraces the core ethos of Rocky Horror, which centers on a simple command from the show’s most famous number: “Don’t Dream It, Be It.” That line functions as a battle cry for misfits, eccentrics, and people who shake things up. The production will work backward from that idea, making it the show’s north star.
Juliette Lewis calls the version Pinkleton created “really fresh” and “unpredictable.” “You don’t see characters like this on stage,” she notes. The choreography, the direction, the performances together create something that longtime Rocky Horror fans have never experienced, yet the beloved songs and iconic moments remain sacred.
