Artist Katie Paterson had a feverish vision. While sick in bed, she saw a giant glacier melting. Not just any glacier – Vatnajokull, Iceland’s largest. Guided by her vision, Paterson has installed a microphone linked through cellular networks to the melting glacier. In a small tent on Vatnajkull, there is a microphone and amplifier. Any one who calls 7758 225 698 (UK) can listen in to the sound of a global tragedy. It is a remarkable and moving sound. Say goodbye – this time, it’s forever.
In Canada, dial 011 44 7758 225698 – calls charged at international rates.
Installation runs until June 13, 2007.
