Website Review: The NFB's Filmmaker-in-Residence

Are you comfortably sitting in front of your computer? Cup of hot tea coiling bergamot steam from beneath your winter-cooled nose? Relaxed and ready? Good. Now take a deep breath and go instantly to the National Film Board of Canada's (NFB) newest political multi-media offering and prepare to be comforted, engaged, inspired, enraged, and informed as a tapestry of rich music, video, photography, text, graphics and sounds cajole you into the world of the NFB filmmaker-in-residence program. Political documentary filmmaker Katerina Cizek is the current auteur at the center of this initiative which seeks to reconnect with the groundbreaking and globally imitated Challenge for Change(CFC) project that sprung from the wells of the NFB in 1966. Only this time, things look a little more crisp and the cameras are a little lighter.

image.bg Takes on Europe

Launched right before the turn of the year and Bulgaria's ascension to the European Union, image.bg is a young project, straight from the furnace of long-forgotten Eastern Europe, born to embody the contemporary social and cultural ambiance of a country unknown to the West. Since its inception in November '06, this multi media online platform has received more than 300 works from people all over the country and abroad. From photography to poetry, to short film and political prose, image.bg has coiled on the moto "Stop complaining and act!" and is soon to begin a cross-EU journey with its collection of selected works and the uneasy task to disclose the real image of Bulgaria today.

Protest for LebanonROB MAGUIRE - Protestors demonstrate outside of the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal where former US Secretary of State Colin Powell gave a speech on "Building a Stronger Israel". Powell was the featured guest of a Jewish National Fund gala, an organization that is "deeply tainted by Israel's ethnic cleansing war crimes", according the the Jewish Alliance Against the Occupation.
