Now, even with most fans behind the show, Skylar admits there’s still that competitive fire burning within him.

The 30-year-old actor, born in the Canary Islands to a Lebanese father and British mother, has poured everything into bringing the charming cook to life. His dedication includes intensive martial arts training and deep emotional preparation for nuanced scenes. Skylar’s commitment reflects a larger mindset: winning over fans isn’t the final goal, building something timeless is.

Bringing Sanji’s Heart to Season 2

One Piece Season 2, titled ‘Into the Grand Line,’ features one of the most emotional moments in Sanji’s story. A powerful scene required Skylar to perform a full page and a half of uninterrupted dialogue opposite Emily Rudd (Nami). This moment reveals Sanji’s tragic past with his mother and the profound loss that shaped his caring nature toward women.

What makes this scene extraordinary is how Skylar wove his own mother into the performance. He used his mother’s voice and accent when Sanji quotes his own mother, creating an incredibly authentic emotional resonance. Skylar filmed this tender moment on his birthday, with his real mother watching from the set tent. The result is a scene that feels deeply personal, bringing tears to viewers and earning praise from co-stars.

The real test is whether One Piece will be celebrated and remembered a decade from now, standing alongside other iconic adaptations.

This mindset sets Skylar and the entire cast apart. Every scene, every performance, every moment is crafted with longevity in mind. Skylar’s commitment to quality ensures that Sanji’s character will resonate with audiences for years to come.

Will One Piece Live Action Achieve Its Legacy Goals?

One Piece Season 2 faces high expectations now that the live-action format has proven itself successfully. The original manga by Eiichiro Oda has captivated readers for 25 years, establishing one of the most beloved franchises globally. Netflix’s adaptation must maintain this momentum while deepening character development and expanding the story. Taz Skylar and his co-stars appear fully committed to making that happen, backed by solid ratings and fan enthusiasm.

The cast’s collaborative energy and individual dedication suggest they have the foundation to build something truly memorable. Whether One Piece becomes a generational adaptation like Game of Thrones or The Lord of the Rings remains to be seen. But if Taz Skylar’s passion and work ethic are any indication, this crew is ready for the challenge. The next move belongs to audiences to embrace the journey they’re inviting us on.

  1. I really don’t think that Game of Thrones is as generational as a lot of people want to think. It may have started out with that potential, sure, but it didn’t stick the landing. The subsequent shows show a downward trend in viewership as well. That suggests that while it was popular, people have moved on and there is no longer any real interest in it. It is also a real possibility that people are starting to view it as little more than a money-grab milking a dead concept. Comparing that to a series that has been going on for more than 28 years, sounds at least a little gauche.

I understand the desire to compare Game of Thrones to Lord of the Rings. They’re both high fantasy, they both have political elements, they both have conquering quests. However, the fact of the matter is that Lord of the Rings has outlived its author. One Piece has many movies, while it is true that Oda has been getting involved in them nowadays, its mainly in an oversight role to facilitate a sense that they are canonical to the wider world of One Piece. The only time that people actually ever enjoy Game of Thrones, is when the original Author is directly involved in the writing room.
