The season begins with Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes, which earned a New York Times Critic’s Pick during its 2025 premiere. Tom Noonan’s Legacy Honored Through First Major Revival
What Happened Was represents the first major revival of Tom Noonan’s groundbreaking work since the legendary playwright passed away February 14. The play, which the New York Times hailed for its exploration of intimate human connection, will star Corey Stoll (known for Billions and Appropriate) and Cecily Strong (from Saturday Night Live and Apple TV+’s Schmigadoon).
The production depicts a first date between coworkers that evolves into a darkly humorous examination of modern romance. Noonan originally wrote and directed the 1994 film adaptation, which won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance Film Festival. Performances run April 14 through June 14, with 33 performances total. The play explores how vulnerability and connection reshape who we believe ourselves to be.

“Our TOGETHER and Audible collaboration is what drew me to theater in the first place: incredible words brought to life in a space where the bond between actor and audience is immediate. Our productions deliver just that at the Minetta Lane, and later, we extend that experience to wherever you might be listening.”
— Hugh Jackman, TOGETHER Co-Founder
Avant-Garde Monologues Bring Contemporary Stories to Life
New Born showcases Ella Hickson’s distinctive approach to storytelling through three interconnected monologues. The production features Hugh Jackman as a tree surgeon falling in love, while Marianna Gailus portrays a young woman searching for her friend on the prairie, and Sepideh Moafi embodies a new mother consumed by celebrity friendship.
The New York Times calls Hickson a powerful voice whose monologues pull audiences into lives that feel suddenly, dramatically real. The three seemingly unrelated characters find their smallest choices ripple into seismic changes across centuries and continents. Performances run May 8 through June 8, offering 27 total performances. Jackman transitions directly from What Happened Was into this ambitious new work.
Will Audible Theater’s Accessible Model Transform How Theater Reaches Global Audiences?
The TOGETHER partnership combines live performance excellence with massive digital reach. Each production will be recorded and released on Audible, extending these star-led theatrical experiences to millions of global listeners. The 2025 inaugural season distributed over 13,000 affordable and complimentary tickets to community organizations, proving the model works.
Sonia Friedman and Kate Navin, Audible’s Head of Creative Development, specified the partnership’s mission, stating that accessible theater meets audiences searching for connection and immediacy in today’s world. All performances offer 25 percent of seats at $35 available same-day only. The ambitious vision suggests theater’s future lies not on Broadway’s expensive seats alone, but in shared cultural experiences across economic boundaries and geographic limitations.
