Hawaii Brings the New Ohana Round Format

Season 24 debuted a brand-new competition structure in the Hawaiian islands. The Top 30 traveled to Aulani, a Disney Resort for what producers called the Ohana Round (Ohana means family in Hawaiian). Unlike traditional auditions, this round featured three distinct voting groups deciding performances.

The judges (Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie) watched alongside. But they didn’t vote alone. Contestants voted for each other, family members voted, and an industry panel of tastemakers evaluated each performance. Every group selected one standout artist to receive a Platinum Ticket.

Three Platinum Tickets Change Everything

Jordan McCullough earned the first Platinum Ticket by winning votes from his fellow Top 30 contestants. The 27-year-old from Tennessee performed “Grandma’s Hands” by Bill Withers, leaving the judges on their feet. Judges raved about his delivery and emotional connection.

Brooks Rosser, a 22-year-old from Maryland, captured the second ticket chosen by family members. His unique voice and confident stage presence impressed the contestants’ families watching in Hawaii. Kyndal Inskeep, from Indiana, won the industry tastemakers’ vote with an original song called “Woman of Me.”

What’s Next for the Top 20 in Hawaii

The Top 20 competition intensifies next week. Brad Paisley and Keke Palmer will mentor contestants in Hawaii for unprecedented episodes. Two performances will air on March 16 and March 23. For the first time this season, fans get to vote on who advances.

The live results show shifts to March 30, when America’s votes determine who moves into the next round. The Platinum Ticket advantage means Jordan, Brooks, and Kyndal skip any elimination threat during Hawaii performances and go straight to America’s vote.

Can the Surprise Platinum Tickets Change the Game Forever?

The new voting format changed everything. Judges historically made Top 20 decisions alone. Now contestants, families, and industry insiders shape the field. Does this new structure level the playing field for overlooked singers? Will the three Platinum Ticket holders have an unfair advantage once live shows begin with real viewer voting?
