In death Jimi Hendrix was able to do what U.S. president George W. Bush could not: help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. This weekend the Icons of Music auction raised a cool $2.7 million to help musicians who lost instruments during the disaster. One of Jimi's old axes netted nearly $450,000 for the charity, while a pair of John Lennon's iconic glasses went for $34K.
Most items at the auction, however, were of Irish rock pedigree. The auction was said to be the largest sale of U2 memorabilia ever sold. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the charity Music Rising, who are working to rebuild the musical heritage of New Orleans.

It is always great to see people helping those is need. Charity organizations are doing an excellent job distributing food, medicine and money for unfortunate people hit by Katrina. Kudos guys!
