Propaganda and consumption

Best Buy shoppers camp out before Black Friday, proving that certain kinds of occupations are indeed acceptable.

This week’s Friday Film Pick is a double bill, commemorating two important moments. Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch’s War on Journalism is a pick that commemorates the recent poll published by Fairleigh Dickinson University showing that Fox TV news viewers are actually less-informed about world events than those who do not watch any news at all. The second pick, Wal-Town, commemorates Black Friday, which is today, and a day of insane consumption in the US and online. Outfoxed reveals Fox’s mission to entertain and misinform instead of providing real news, and Wal-Town follows six Canadian activists (disclaimer: I’m one of them) some years back as they try to raise awareness about Wal-Mart’s effects on small towns in Canada. Watch both films in full below (after the jump).
