“I’m melting, I’m melting!” screamed the witch in Victor Flemming’s The Wizard of Oz. No better tag line could be found for todays’s global warming crisis, and the Cruja Rosa (The Red Cross) in Buenos Aires has turned the idea of melting into a clever campaign to raise awareness about climate change.
Perched along a major pedestrian thoroughfare in Buenos Aires, the Cruja Rosa’s version of a melting man begs Argentinians to get informed about global warming. Placed in a gruesome puddle of his melting self, melting man is hard to miss. His handout urges Argentinians to use public transportation, conserve water, reuse plastic bags, and buy energy-efficient appliances.
The campaign was designed to raise awareness about the fact that much of the Argentinian Red Cross budget goes to help victims of natural disasters such as droughts, floods, and heavy snowfall – all generally attributable to global warming.
