Just to clarify, I know Thermopylae wasn't a victory in the literal sense, but in terms of the Hellenic war effort overall, it was of great significance in rallying the Greek cities behind the Spartan phalanx. And spiritually Thermopylae is the undying victory of liberty, royalty, and all that is sacred over injustice and despotism.

When a couple make a family, it is only right and natural for them to be proud, protective, and dedicated in relation to that family. It is also expected that their children will be proud of and respectful to their parents. This is how human nature functions. A cohesive ethnic group, or nation, is really a widely extended family, since all or at least most of its inhabitants will share a close biological relationship (whose lineage can oftentimes be traced back with great precision). When a nation becomes conscious (aware of its historic existence and purpose), it is only natural that its people be proud and defensive of their ethnic identity, of their commonality, and of their freedom (if they are indeed so lucky to have earned their liberty). 300 tells the historic chapter of the aggressive campaign of Xerxes against the free and proud Greeks. Sparta was but one force in the Greek coalition, though they earned their everlasting glory at Thermopylae, just as the Athenians won fame of arms at Marathon. The Persians possessed a multiracial imperium and their designs on Greece were nothing less than tyrannous expansionism. Their victory would have spelled the doom of philosophy, reason, and liberty. These are basic historical facts. Only a self-hating lunatic would take the side of the Persians in this conflict. The Persians should be demonised for the threat they posed to the Hellenic world, which let us not forget, still forms the enlightened foundation of our Western civilisation. 300 represents the Spartans as proud, free men and as warriors. Take note that I employ the term ‘warrior’ and not ‘soldier’. Soldiers have their roots in history as mercenaries who fought for lordless, secular republics. They are the fighting class of the moneyed, godless Bourgeoisie. Warriors, on the other hand, are the Kshatriya (Hindu warrior-caste), hoplites, Equestrians, knights, and Samurai of the bygone aristocratic era. Warriors were born and bred to make war, and they did so under strict discipline, according to ancestral codes of honour and courtesy, and with spiritual sanction. An honourable warrior could expect an honourable death. A dishonourable foe got whatever his deeds earned him. Wars were smaller, less brutal, less barbaric, and certainly nothing like the cheap, inhumane, bourgeois, and industrialist slaughter of the modern age. Your comprehension of what it meant to be Spartan is sorely lacking, as you mouth off nothing but modernist tripe and Marxist propaganda. The ancient Spartans were the least degenerated, least decadent, least slothful, least corrupted, and most inspired of all the Greek city-states. Their kingdom was built on the power of Spartan arms, courage, defiance, discipline, and virility. In an age when Victory was worshipped at temple altars, the Spartans truly were her chosen people. The film glorifies the higher nature in Man; that aspect of our souls which defies the impulse to kneel, to gratify our lower impulses, to surrender our will and our freedom in pursuit of mere comforts. 300 tells a tale of hard men who defied a tyrant, rescued the West from the void, and ultimately left us with a symbol of self-sacrifice, bravery, and discipline. That symbol is the name ‘Thermopylae’. It was not a victory of democracies or republics (far from it), but a victory of a kingdom, of a proud, eugenicist tribe whose utter superiority over their enemies stands testament to the virility and righteousness of their culture and of the Lycurgan system itself.

Krysten Brayed.

"I can guarantee you one thing; I will never go write a 4 page, 2000 word critique about ANYTHING… especially not a movie. Sounds like you need to get some kind of help, pal."

Yes it's pretty clear that you would not be capable of such an endevaour.I'm not sure you could even be trusted with a spoon.

Pride for your home, your people, your values, your integrity (something that of course only members of your community have).

What fine Völkisch sentiments.

If you liked 300 here's something that should right up your strasse,
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triumph_of_the_will." target="_blank">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triumph_of_the_will.</a>

By way of a bon voyage,I suggest you take your right arm down from it's permanent 45 degree elevation
and read some actual texts on Sparta.

Hitler admired them greatly especially for their treatment of the Helots (the slave class of Sparta).
On completion of their military training Spartan Warriors were sent to into wilderness in order to gain survival skills, but also to maintain social order among the Helots by randomly slaughtering them. Most of the slaughter was random and led by whim, however more formalized massacres were also used to control them.Myron of Priene a Greek historian of the time recounts one particularly savage episode in 425 B.C in which 2000 or more Helots were massacred:

"The helots were invited by a proclamation to pick out those of their number who claimed to have most distinguished themselves against the enemy, in order that they might receive their freedom; the object being to test them, as it was thought that the first to claim their freedom would be the most high spirited and the most apt to rebel. As many as two thousand were selected accordingly, who crowned themselves and went round the temples, rejoicing in their new freedom. The Spartans, however, soon afterwards did away with them, and no one ever knew how each of them perished."

What wonderful exemplars of humanity those Spartans were. It's great to see Hollywood celebrating such heroes.

This movie is not about fear. If anything, it's about pride. Pride for your home, your people, your values, your integrity. You don't have to agree with it, but I'm sure I don't agree with some of the things you're proud of. Oh well.

People like you are one of my biggest pet peeves. Movies are made for entertainment. Solely. And unless a director or writer comes out and says "this movie was made to say *blank*", it really irritates me when people who fancy themselves smarter and more clever and omniscient, take it upon themselves to pick apart an entertaining movie and turn it into a disgraceful thing. You find things about the movie that no one else sees. You even claim to KNOW what the director was hoping to achieve. Who do you think you are? Really? You may think you're some amazingly profound "movie critic", but get over yourself. It's a movie. A great movie... not because it's plot and dialogue is overly inventive, but because it's a visual knock-out. It's almost relentless in that way. Sometimes, it's just best to sit back and enjoy the show... the fantastical imagery before you... and take it at face-value.

Guess what, Ezra, I'm not "dedicated" to Mars... and you can't cleverly pick apart my name and try to make a false point of it.
This movie is not about fear. Nor is it directly about race, or highlighting racism. Take a look at the final shot of this movie. There's only one man that's blonde, and he isn't even truly blonde. All of these men are dark haired. I didn't see hardly any men with blue eyes. When I think of a person of Greek decent, I think of olive-toned skin, dark hair, and green eyes. I believe the public would have been confused had they watched this movie to find dark skinned people. And it's lunacy to say that someone is racist because they portray Persians as darker skinned! They ARE darker skinned! Also, Xerxes was a monster... he considered himself a god, for F sake! So of course he has monsters in his collection of freaks. That doesn’t make this movie anymore racist. Dang, I guess Harry Potter is racist because Hagrid is an outcast AND a giant!!! Oh nooooo!!

"This movie is pro-war propaganda, it tells its audience to hate and destroy its inhuman enemy."

Of course, in a war the goal is to destroy the enemy. And demonizing the enemy is absolutely appropriate.

"live in fear"

America has a military, FBI, CIA, etc. to be concerned for it's safety, so Americans won't have to live in fear.

"they deal in hate."

What the heck? It is absolutely appropriate to love and hate. It is good to hate that which seeks to destroy one's country and government.

As your name's etymology implies, you are indeed "dedicated to Mars." Thanks for reading, and for being bored by critical analysis of popular culture. I suggest you try another site for your excitement...perhaps NASA?

The other thing is this: you CANT do anything about it. When you cant beat em - join em. Now be a good little boy and conform.
