Pivot is pleased to announce that its first issue will available for sale in Montreal at the FOFA Gallery (in the EV building of Concordia University) and at the Olivieri bookstore of the Musée d'art contemporain. Pivot's first issue explores the broad and flexible theme of Play, and features texts and visual work by graduate students in the disciplines of Art, Art History and Communication Studies, as well as a text by guest artist Darren O'Donnell.
To celebrate the launch of Pivot, this inaugural issue carries inserts by artists Jerry Ropson and Elisabeth Belliveau, and a limited number of issues include a CD insert by sound artist Owen Chapman.
The journal Pivot provides a unique forum for graduate scholarship working towards the exploration of relationships among diverse forms of art practice and production, as well as art history, visual
studies, theory, and criticism. Continually negotiating shared and divided scholarly territories, each issue of Pivot will bring together academic research, experimental texts, artist's statements, invited productions and original artworks. Through this collaboration we hope to encourage a space for academic and artistic experiment that recognizes the potential of both risk and failure.
